All About Nate & Cassie

Hello! Our names are Nate and Cassie, and just celebrated 11 years of marriage in May 2024. We love to have fun and experience new things, so we travel whenever we can-- we are currently making plans to visit Ireland! A typical day for us includes a lot of music, reading, and playing with our dogs— Nala, Frank, and Beans.

We are SO EXCITED that fall is beginning! Every year, we rewatch the Harry Potter series, stream our favorite spooky movies, and read mystery books. We also really ramp up our baking this time of year, and take more walks in our neighborhood park and trails.

Why Adoption?

We tried to start a family pretty quickly after we married. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful and, after a few years of treatments, we decided to take some time off to reconnect and re-evaluate our next steps. Cassie went back to school, and we both took a lot of time to determine whether we wanted to step into the adoption process. After about 3 years of researching and talking together, we became very confident that we would be a good fit as adoptive parents, but felt especially drawn to the concept of an open adoption! Since our decision and with the help of the JustChoice team, we have learned so much about this process and we wholeheartedly believe in this path for family-building.

Family & Home

We both come from tight-knit families, and we are very close with our parents and siblings. Combined, we have 14 nieces and nephews. Being an engaged aunt and uncle has been a very fulfilling experience, and we can't wait to be parents ourselves. Our whole family is enthusiastic about providing the children with every opportunity to learn new things, pursue their interests, and to experience a nurturing environment, so most of our sibling’s homes are also filled with books, art supplies, instruments, and toys that will spark imaginative play, etc.

Our home is quaint (small), but we’ve been intentional to collect items and create spaces that spark creativity and foster curiosity. For example, there’s a lot of color in our home and we’ve displayed many items that we’ve brought back from our travels that have become conversation pieces when we have company or to serve our own memory. We have a cute front porch and a backyard that is full of vegetable and flower beds! Our neighborhood is pretty connected and close to a lot of great attractions downtown. If it’s not winter, we and many of our neighbors spend a lot of time outside, so we’ve been able to get to know folks more and more. There are many young families on our street, so we’re looking forward to adding another kiddo to the laughter and sidewalk chalk outside!

How others describe me

Cassie is the most genuine person I’ve ever encountered. She makes room in her heart to intentionally foster relationships, constantly recognizing the needs of others and ensuring all are accepted. She has created a home environment that is comfortable, supportive, warm, and peaceful. She is hilarious, quick-witted, stunningly brilliant, and empathetic.

Nate is adventurous and the most curious person I know. He is constantly learning and never shies away from a challenge. His confidence and kindness make a large impact on the people around him as he encourages them to try new things or explore new perspectives. This is what makes him such a great friend and partner, and I cannot wait to see these qualities play out as he becomes a father. Nate is also incredibly funny– he makes me laugh every day, and he’s usually the life of the party no matter where we’re at.

how we met

How We Met

We met in college through mutual friends we played music with and quickly became best friends. We fell in love after a few years of late-night Taco Bell runs and traveling together— it was risky, and we were so scared, but it was worth it!

Advice to Future Child

Our advice is to always be curious about the world around you– to observe it and ask questions so that, rather than just accepting what is told or seen, you can understand why and how things exist. Our advice is to see challenges as opportunities to grow and to further connect with yourself and your place in the world. Most of all, we hope they are reminded/remind themselves that they belong and are not alone and that they can and should communicate their needs to people they trust so that they can experience what it’s like to support others and be supported throughout their life.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We view adoption as an opportunity to come alongside you in order to champion your decision and the upbringing you want to see for the child. We are hopeful that as you consider your options, the adoption route feels less overwhelming because of this support. Ultimately, we see open adoption as a path for family preservation, where we can hold an expanded understanding of how families look, operate, and support each other.

No matter what, our hope is that by visiting our profile, you understand how important you are! Our family is 100% willing and prepared to join you along your journey, and we are honored to be considered as a second family for your child.

Please feel free to look through our photos and videos, so that you can get a better feel for who we are and what life could look like if we partnered together. And always remember and be encouraged that we are praying for and in support of your peace of mind, your health, and your well-being constantly.
