All About Ed & Drew

Our names are Ed and Drew, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to tell you more about us and our journey together. We're so excited at the thought of becoming parents together and can’t wait to provide a child with all the love, laughter, stability, and joy we have to give.

Drew graduated from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) in 2008 and quickly began a career in finance after returning home to Portland. While working in Portland, he also served as a volunteer Firefighter-EMT for a rural fire department outside of Portland where he found personal fulfillment in serving the community and working alongside fellow Firefighters. In 2017, he decided it was time to work towards his goal to relocate to Southern California. After a brief job search, he received an offer in San Diego and headed south to begin his new adventure. Drew continued to excel in his work in finance and transitioned to a role as a Marketing Director for a large financial firm in 2022 which has proven to be very rewarding for him.

As an Eagle Scout, Ed spent many summers at camp enjoying the great outdoors and developing his leadership skills. He excelled in school and has always enjoyed math & science. He graduated from the California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Construction Management and obtained a Minor in Business Administration as well. He has built his career in the construction management field moving up the ranks to a director level role where he leads a large team as they build significant projects on a college campus in San Diego.

Since moving in together in 2020, buying a home in 2021, and marrying in 2023, our milestones together and love for each other have continued to build a strong foundation for our relationship and for our own eventual family. Along with our adorably lazy 10 year-old beagle mix dog, Whiskey, we have settled into our home in the suburbs of San Diego and cannot wait to provide a nurturing, loving, safe, and caring home for a child.

For us, family has always played a central role in our lives. We each have 5 siblings and 7 nieces/nephews, and remain close with all of them. While they are spread across California and Oregon, we have always made it a priority to travel up and down the West Coast for holidays, birthdays, and family events. More often than not, we also find ourselves playing host to their many visits which involve frequent day trips to the beach, hikes around town, and countless cookouts at home. When we aren’t visiting or hosting family, we love spending time with our “family” of close San Diego friends.

Our commitment as adoptive parents will be to always provide a safe and secure home; full of love, understanding, patience, affection, adventure, and memorable moments.

Why Adoption?

For us, adoption felt like the natural and most meaningful path for us to become parents. While we’ve always dreamed of having a family, our options are more limited due to our circumstances. Adoption gives us the chance to fulfill that dream by providing a loving and safe home to a child in need. It’s not only about becoming parents, but about creating a family rooted in love, compassion, and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a child’s life. Though our journey to parenthood may look different, it’s one we’re excited to take together, knowing we’ll be able to offer a child the love and stability they deserve.

Family & Home

We consider ourselves fortunate to call sunny San Diego home. We live in a quiet community called La Mesa, just a few miles inland from the beach. Our home is a three-bedroom house with a large yard and outdoor area that is perfect for gathering with family and friends. Within a few blocks from our home are several parks, schools, and walking trails that we visit with our dog often and hope to enjoy with our future child too. Our home is located on a safe, quiet street with other young families and retired couples. Each year we take pride in decorating our home with Christmas lights and Halloween decorations that make the holidays feel magical.

Drew grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon with 4 sisters and 1 brother. Though his childhood home was small for a family of 8, the love from his parents and the camaraderie amongst his siblings was plentiful. He is very close with his family and flies up to Portland several times a year to spend time with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.

Family is extremely important to Ed as he is very close to his parents and siblings. He comes from a large family himself and has been dreaming of fatherhood as long as he can remember. With his large family, there is no shortage of birthday parties, graduations, celebrations, and holiday gatherings.

How others describe me

About Ed from Drew

Ed is the most nurturing and loyal person I’ve ever had the chance to meet. I’ve always admired how deeply and naturally he connects with anyone that crosses his path. Ed is steady, reliable, and can be counted on by his friends, family, (and me) no matter what. There is nobody else I could imagine sharing this journey with, and one of my greatest joys in life will be watching him pour his heart and soul into being a Dad. Quite simply, he was born to be a parent, and I have no doubt that he will devote all of his energy to protecting, caring for, and loving our future child.

About Drew from Ed

Every day, Drew shows up with a heart full of warmth and an unwavering commitment to those he loves. Whether it’s through small gestures, or through big acts of kindness, he always makes me and others feel supported and cared for. Throughout our relationship I’ve had a front row seat to how patient and empathetic Drew is, and I know he is going to make an amazing and loving Dad.

how we met

How We Met

We met over 5 years ago at a rooftop brewery in sunny San Diego, California where we quickly bonded over our large families, love for the outdoors, and most importantly, our shared goal of being fathers someday.

Advice to Future Child

Our advice to you, our future child, would be to always embrace who you are, no matter what the world might expect. Know that you are deeply loved for exactly who you are, and that love will always be your foundation. Life might not always be easy or straightforward, but trust that your worth is never determined by anyone else’s standards—it's defined by your heart, your character, and your dreams. Be kind, be brave, and always seek out the beauty in both the big and small moments of life. And above all, know that you are a true gift, chosen and cherished beyond measure, and we will always be here to support you as you grow into the person you're meant to be.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We strongly believe in the beauty and importance of open adoption. We understand that the decision to place a child for adoption is deeply personal, and we respect the courage and love it takes for expectant parents to consider this path. Our perspective is rooted in compassion and a desire to build a respectful, transparent relationship with birth parents, if they wish, to ensure that the child knows their full story. We believe that openness in adoption helps create a sense of connection and understanding, allowing the child to feel secure in their identity and have the opportunity to know and appreciate the love and sacrifice their birth parents made. Ultimately, we see open adoption as a way to honor all parties involved and create a network of support built on trust, care, and shared love for the child.
