All About Dan & Maribeth

Hi! We are Maribeth and Dan. We live in Columbus, Ohio and bought our first home in July of 2023. Dan is from Columbus and moved back to Ohio in 2017 after living in Arizona for over nine years. Maribeth moved to Columbus in 2014 and is originally from Perrysburg in northwest Ohio. We both like spending time together by either cooking, playing pickleball or binge watching our favorite shows. Dan’s personality is very laid back and chill. He is so sweet, kind and thoughtful. Dan is such a loving person, really thoughtful with his words, and always knows the right things to say. Maribeth has a more outgoing and vibrant personality, and she is very loving.

Why Adoption?

After several years of infertility we were both very open to adoption from the very beginning as we learned that we wouldn’t be able to have a biological child.  Adoption was the right choice and maybe this was a sign after I couldn’t get pregnant so we decided to move forward with this journey of getting a child! My very best friend Lindsay adopted her child as she had struggles with getting pregnant too.  She has always talked to me about adoption and after my struggles suggested it.  She has been a huge support system to help us navigate through this.  We have a few coworkers and friends who have siblings that were adopted as well that we talk with too! It’s really nice to know people who have been adopted or are adopting to have a network. We are ready for adoption because this is something we both want so badly as a couple.  Going through what we have in the past 2 years was probably one of the hardest things we have ever endured in our lives.  We are so happy and excited for this next journey and can’t wait to meet our birth mother and start this new beginning by being parents.  We love children and can’t wait to see our child and give them all the love and support they deserve!

Family & Home

We live in a small township North of Columbus, which has a local playground area with swing sets, slides, and a park. In the summer the park hosts concerts which are family friendly. Our home has 3 bedrooms, a nice backyard and patio.  Our house is conveniently located across the street from the elementary school. Our neighborhood is culturally diverse and kid-friendly. We even have a committee that plans family events throughout the year including concerts and scavenger hunts. We are extremely close with our families. Dan’s background is Greek and he has two sisters and Maribeth has a brother. Our sibling families have multiple kids Dan has 3 nieces and 1 nephew and Maribeth has 2 nieces and 1 nephew, our families are very open, warm, and accepting. The kids in our family range in age from 21 all the way down to 1 year old. Both families are thrilled and eagerly anticipating  the arrival of the baby.  Dan’s parents live locally in Columbus and will be very hands-on with Gigi helping to babysit and Maribeth’s parents live not far, only about 2 hours away in Van Wert, Ohio.  We both come from strong family backgrounds.  Family gatherings have always been an important tradition in both of our families.  We have family reunions every summer and then we also go to Florida for a beach vacation annually. Holidays and birthdays are strong traditions we participate in as well. We try to get together as much as possible with our families as we can.  We believe in having an open mind and respect for all different cultures. We believe that experience with various different cultures will enrich our lives. We feel so fortunate that we live in a city that promotes cultural diversity and access to many different cultures. We will work hard to expose our child to their cultural background so they can experience for themselves who they are and where they come from.  Most of our friends already have kids and are super supportive and excited for us to have a child as we will have play dates set up!

How others describe me

Maribeth - From the first day I met Maribeth, I knew she was the one. Maribeth has a magnetic personality that draws people in. She’s always thinking about other people before herself.  She has an infectious personality and amazing sense of humor. Coming home to Maribeth is like coming home to my heart and soul, where I know I’m always welcomed and cherished.  All the attributes you can come up with that describe a great mother, she embodies them and lives with every day. Her love is unconditional, her strength unwavering, and her patience endless. She is more to me than just my wife; she is a hero, a role model, a source of inspiration. She is everything a mother should be and so much more.

Dan - What attracted me to him is our first date was at a coffee shop, and we sat and talked for over three hours. It was nice to not go out for a drink or dinner on a traditional first date instead we just got to know one another over coffee. I remember thinking how sweet, kind and nice he was. How thoughtful he was too. A true gentleman. He has a very laid back and chill personality.  Dan is such a loving person, really thoughtful with his words, and always knows the right thing to say. He writes thoughtful notes/cards to me at any time, and I really appreciate that. He is a very hard worker too. He works in the golf industry which can be hard during the peak season of summer, but he has a great work ethic and never complains, because he loves his career. His love, commitment and thoughtfulness are all very important to me and who he is as a person. I value that so much in him which will make him a great father.

how we met

How We Met

We met online on Bumble, a dating app in 2019. What clicked immediately was that we sat there and talked for over three hours and got to really know one another!

Advice to Future Child

As you navigate through life, remember to always be true to yourself.  Stay grounded in your values and beliefs, and never compromise your integrity for anyone or anything. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and support you, and never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Remember that failure is not the end, but simply a stepping stone on the path to success. Embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. And above all, never forget how loved and cherished you are. We believe in you and know that you are capable of achieving great things. Trust in yourself and your abilities, and the world will be yours for the taking.

Perspectives on Open Adoption

We look at open adoption as a wonderful opportunity for birth parents to stay connected with their child and be a part of their life. The most important thing is that the child's needs and wellbeing are prioritized in any adoption arrangement. Your child will be cherished beyond measure, and we will always be grateful for the trust you have placed in us. We will share with our child that this decision was made out of love and we are open to exchanging text messages, phone calls, pictures and letters with you, if that is something you would like. We promise to provide your child all the love and the very best life we can provide for her or him.   Thank you for considering us to be the parents of your precious child.
